Telephone Facilities at the Prisons
Prison inmates would be able to contact their kith and kin with the installation of telephone facilities at the Prison premises.
For the first time facilities have been provided for prison inmates to speak to their relatives with the installation of eight telephone booths at at a cost of 7.2 million rupees, at the Prison premises.
Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera opened the telephone booths installed at the Welikada Prison on Wednesday (15).
The initiative was taken for the first time in Sri Lanka on a cconcept of the Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera and on the instructions of Ministry Secretary G.S.Vithanage.
Secretary to the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms G.S.Vithanage, Prisons Commissioner Chandrarathne Pallegama, Sri Lanka Telecom CEO Lalith de Silva and Welikada Prison's Superintendent Emil Ranjan also participated at the event.(KH)
