There were no plans to sell Salawa weapons to Pakistan - Rajitha Senaratne
There were no plans to sell the weapons stored at the Salawa Army Camp, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.
Responding to a question by a Journalist whether there were any initiatives to sell the weapons stored at the Salawa Camp to Pakistan, the minister assured that no such plans were made by the government and added that if there were any, that should have been presented through the Cabinet.
"Such incidents were possible only during the tenure of the former government, to have such dealings without the knowledge of the Cabinet," he said.
Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera assured that the Salawa incident was not a threat to the national security. "It will not affect the strength of the Army nor the country's Military power," he said.
The Brigadier also said the Army camp will be moved to a less populated area and added that it was a decision taken two years ago. "Explosions in Army camps are common even in the other countries. The camps are maintained very well. However, a minor mistake could trigger a bigger explosion in such places as well," he said.
Brigadier Jayaweera said the Army Engineering unit was engaged in estimating the damages caused to the properties and houses and the houses will be reconstructed by the Army and added that the government has allocated money for the constructions.
