The decision to replace several party organizers with new members is not motivated by revenge, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake says.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (18).

“The party had no intention to take revenge or harm anyone,” he added. President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday sacked nine loyalist of his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa from Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in a major reshuffle that would likely mute any opposition from within the unity government. The purge affected by Sirisena claimed the posts of nine front line backers of Rajapaksa as SLFP organisers.

Dissanayake also added that the arrangements have been finalized to hold the annual party convention on 4th of next month on a grand scale. Former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and chandrika kumaratunga have also been invited for the event, he said.
