Judge May Dismiss Stormy Daniels’ Defamation Suit Against Donald Trump
A federal judge has indicated that he might dismiss a defamation suit against President Trump that was brought against him by porn star Stormy Daniels.
According to Bloomberg News, Judge S. James Otero, who is a US District Court judge in Los Angeles, weighed in on the suit, which comes from a Trump tweet calling Daniels a “total con job,” via Twitter.
“This appears to be rhetorical hyperbole by a public official involving a public figure,” Otero had said.
The President was apparently referring to an allegation made by Daniels in 2011, where she says a man threatened her to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Donald Trump.
He even criticized a sketch of the man who had allegedly threatened her.
“A sketch years later about a nonexistent man,” Trump tweeted. “A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)!”
Donald Trump’s lawyers are claiming that the case should be dismissed because his tweets are a “protected opinion.”
