Child opts to go with alleged kidnapper
The three year old child who had been forcibly taken away from his mother’s care in December 2013 at the Ambalangoda bus stand was produced today in the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court with the beggar, the suspect who is alleged to have abducted the child. Magistrate Asanga Boderagama remanded the suspect until the 31st of this month, and also ordered the child to be sent to Kithulampitiya Ruhunu children’s home in Galle.
The child who has now turned four, on seeing the beggar in courts had run towards him crying “ I want to go with my father” displaying to those in court his attachment to an affectionate father. The suspect who took the child in his arms cuddled him and had kissed him showing love and tenderness.
The suspect identified as Loku Mudiyanselage Kamal alias Kalumalli a resident of Dambulla.
The child’s mother Nadaraja Jeewarani (22) was also present in court. When the suspect was produced before the magistrate he cried and said that the child was his son. Later he said that he had taken the child for adoption from his grandmother and that he loved him very much.
The magistrate directed the mother of the child to produce whatever documents she possessed to prove that the child was hers.
Attorney R.L.P. Lankadeva represented the rights of the child and his mother, while no lawyer represented the suspect. Further hearing was postponed for the 31st of October by the magistrate.
