Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the next Parliament would be converted into a single government on the basis of consensus among all parties. He further said that the new Parliament should act as a single government in order to develop the country and solve the problems among nations.
He was addressing a special ceremony organized to celebrate 70 the birthday of former President Chandrka Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at the BMICH yesterday.
The Prime Minister further said that he would like to question whether the victory achieved on January 8 would be reversed or whether it would be further strengthened.
He said that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga made a huge impact in creating a political revolution on January 8. We have been able to make revolutionary changes at certain levels within short period.
“I promise to create a better government for the next five years than the one established on January 8,” he said.
“Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga rendered great service to create harmony among all communities. We worked in close cooperation from 2001 to 2004. But, there were some obstacles. She always thought about the uplift of her party. If we continued to work together, we would have brought the LTTE into an agreement to achieve peace,” the PM said.
