Distribution of readymade uniforms, books and dry rations by the Army was conducted at Kolonnawa Weheragoda Maha Vidyalaya on a concept of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and with the coordination of the 142 Brigade Commander, Brigadier D. M. H. D Bandaraon Wednesday (15).
This distributing programme was affected under the close supervision of the Commanding officer, 14 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) for flood-affected children in Kolonnawa and Kaduwela area.
DSI Company also joined to help to the children by giving school books and dry rations, parallel to the Army distributing programmes.
Chief incumbent of Weheragoda temple at Wellampitiya - Sedawaththa, Venerable Ambanwela Gnanaloka thero together with Venerable Angunakolapelesse Wipulasiri thero, officer – in charge of the Buddhist activities section at the Divisional Secretariat office - Kolonnawa conducted religious observances at Kolonnawa Weheragoda Maha Vidyalaya Wednesday morning at first.
After the lighting of the oil lamp the programme began.
A total of 35 flood affected children in Weheragoda Maha Vidyalaya and Meethotamulla Rahula Maha Vidyalaya received readymade uniforms and school books as symbolic gestures on the occasion.
250 students in 19 schools of Kolonnawa area received school essentials and their parents received dry rations.
142 Brigade Commander, 14 SLLI Commanding officer, together with the principals at Weheragoda Maha Vidyalaya and Meethotamulla Rahula Maha Vidyalaya welcomed Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces – West (SF-West) as the chief guest of the day’s event.
Zonal Education Director for Homagama, Ms Dhammi Kodikara, Divisional Secretary for Kolonnawa, Children and their parents attended the programme.
Meanwhile, parallel to the above programme, another distributing programme was held at Pittugala Yashodhara Maha Vidyalaya, Kaduwela. A total of 250 students in Yashodhara Maha Vidyalaya, Kaduwela received readymade school uniforms and school books while their parents received dry rations at the same occasion.
Commander, Security Forces – SF-West and 142 Brigade commander were welcomed by Mrs Chandrika Silva, Principal, Yashodhara Maha Vidyalaya, Kaduwela on arrival at the place.
Assistant Divisional Secretary, Mrs K. S Dilani, children and their parents attended the programme. Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army initiated the project of stitching school uniforms to children affected both in the floods and the fire at Kosgama.
